Figurative style sculptures by artist S.NANDAGOPAL

Artist S. Nandagopal, born in Bengaluru in 1946, lives and works in Cholamandal artist's village in Chennai who has bagged many awards…Nandagopal’s sculptures have a whimsical, but solid quality about them, a mixtureof opposites that can be seen in their strong roots in traditional motifs that have been transformed into a super-contemporary idiom that is uniquely his own…

Several figures have been inspired by Hindu mythology and the epics…. However, each sculpture creates a new  mythology as well as a new form that helps us relate to a culture far removed in time…. His powerful, glistening bronze and copper sculptures soar energetically into space…. His recent exhibition in “Sarala's art Centre” and his participation in “Chennai art Summit made everybody heads turn by his contemporary yet traditional sculptures… hope you will admire his work…

  2. Fellow Chennai-te!! Lovely bumping into you here :) Has he lived there long? I've been to the village often while growing up. My uncle knew artists from the colony and I remember seeing similar sculptures even as a kid.
